A Trip to the Emerald Isle

Sorry for my recent absence on here, I have spent the past week in Ireland.

We (Mum, Dad, Nan, Grandad & I) all travelled over to Ireland for a family wedding, and combined our visit with seeing lots of family.

I think most of our time was spent either driving (as everyone seems to live so far apart from each other) or eating!

Everywhere we visited offered a cup of tea (which of course you cannot decline!) and you can't just have tea on it's own, so biscuits, cakes, sandwiches also followed!

I think we've all come home about a stone heavier!

The wedding was beautiful and we were fortunate enough to have the weather on our side.

For some reason, we all got far too caught up in the whirlwind of the wedding that we forgot to take many pictures.

I couldn't resist putting a picture up of the gorgeous cat that lives with the family we stayed with! :)

I did take my sketchbook with me, I had huge intentions to do lots of drawing!!
However, that failed miserably and I still have no drawings in my summer sketchbook!
Oh well, still plenty of time yet! :)

Stop Motion Animation

Ok, so the other day I was saying about trying some more animation. So, here I am.

I was inspired to try stop motion animation after viewing this video, it's so beautiful and very well done.

I know I would not be able to ever achieve this standard.

But here is my attempt at stop motion.

I know it's not very good, I just had a moment of wanting to try it and this small attempt satisfied this urge.

I will definitely try some more stop motion in the future, with proper lighting and an actual story line/plan.

The previous redness on the video has now been corrected!

My First (Sort of) Animation

In our Photoshop lessons, we were asked to make a small animation to go with a piece of music.

We had to create this animation using Photoshop.

The animation didn't have to be a complex sequence, more of a series of images changing in time with the music.

So, below is the animation I made.

It's not exactly one of the best things I have ever done, but as it's my first animation I have ever made (with the added complication of trying to figure out how to do it in Photoshop) I think I have done alright. Although I know I could have done so much better, however, this can be a challenge for me in the future.

The animation is based on the song 'Sunshine' by The All American Rejects.

I shall definitely try to make some more animations in the future.

The Last of England

The last project we were set at uni was called 'The Last of England'. We were asked to focus on an aspect of England that has changed or is different from the traditional England we know.

I decided to focus on tea, more specifically tea parties. The traditional, formal gathering for drinking tea and eating cake at a tea party has long changed. 

These gatherings that were to celebrate birthdays, Royal Weddings, etc. have been abandoned and forgotten.

I wanted to show this idea through photographs, so with the help of my mum, we set up a tea party scene in the dining room.

I wanted the scene to look as if the tea party had been abandoned half way through. So half eaten cake, tea barely sipped and napkins scrunched up, all add to the effect of this little gathering being abandoned in a hurry (for a reason we do not know, this is left up to your imagination) and never returned to.

Below are some of the original photographs I took of the party scene.

I wanted to represent the tea party as if it was a forgotten memory, something that is no longer around.
So, taking inspiration for a number of old photo albums I have collected, I decided to age each photo in Photoshop and place them into an old-looking photo album.

Below are some of the aged photos, I used old photographs as reference for the scratches, over exposure etc.

I then printed the photos out and placed them into the photo album I made by hand.

Do excuse the awful photos, I took them very quickly just before hand-in, so didn't have a great deal of time to take some nice photos unfortunately.

I was quite please with this outcome, although the photo album could have been better quality.

Today, is a very miserable, rainy day.

This does not cheer up a heavy heart, nor does it help in getting things done.

On another note, my yoga class has been canceled, so that isn't good either.

Sorry for the time I have taken to write this next post.. I just got a little lost in the 'wonders' of the world.

I am, as promised, going to post some of my work from my first year of uni in my next post.

Let the summer begin

I handed in all my uni work last Tuesday, signifying the end of my first year at Cambridge School of Art. This year has gone so quick, yet I feel like I have come such a long way, creatively and in myself, I only hope to develop this further.

I am very much looking forward to the opportunities this summer shall hopefully bring and also to having a good long rest, ready for my next year of University.

I am going to post some pictures of my final project soon.

For now, I am going to leave you with an animation that is just beautiful.

I cannot stop watching it.
